Some of the photography books on my wish list:
Joe McNally’s The Moment it Clicks and Sketching Light
I own his previous book, The Hot Shoe Diaries, and loved it. Joe’s writing style is fun and engaging. His photography is amazing. Both these books give you a behind the scenes look at how he set up his shots, the equipment he used, the problems encountered, the solutions he came up with.
Speedliter’s Handbook by Syl Arena
A book for Canon users who want to know more about their flash, and honestly, who doesn’t.
Photographically Speaking by David duChemin
This book is interesting because it speaks to the photographer’s vision. Why did you create your image that way?
Witness by Ruth Gruber
This book is an autobiography. I watched a documentary on Ruth Gruber a few years ago, and thought, “what an amazing woman.” She was a photojournalist and so much more from the early 1930’s to after the second world war.
Dorothea Lange: A Life Beyond Limits by Linda Gordon
A biography of depression era photographer Dorothea Lange.
The Photographer by Didier Lefevre and Emmanuel Guibert
This book is actually a graphic novel type journal of a journalist’s experiences during the 1986 war between the Soviet Union and Afghanistan. The photography is by Didier Lefevre, and the art is by Emmanuel Guibert. Of all these books, this is probably the one at the top of my must have list.
All these books can be found at Barnes and Noble.
